MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE

Question: What's cuter than a Chinese baby?

Answer: A half-white, half-Chinese baby.

With this is mind, I'm delighted to announce my engagement to Liu Liu, my girlfriend of the past three years. No babies yet—but there will be a wedding, next summer, in Chengdu, China.

Here's a picture of us from the night we met. The venue: a Halloween party in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

We started dating shortly after that. A few weeks later, I wanted to take things to the next level. She remained aloof. Like many Chinese students, Liu spent most of her free time studying. So I wrote her a poem.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so is Liu.

So eager to study,
So eager to hide?
Perhaps someday soon,
You will be by my side.

To stop the silly poetry, she agreed to be my girlfriend.

Fast-forward three years. Liu Liu is as sweet and lovely as ever. She makes me laugh and—more importantly—she laughs at my endless stream of jokes (many of which, she'll be the first to tell you, are kind of stupid, could you stop with the stupid jokes, Murray James). Liu Liu is beautiful; she is kind; she treats me good. I love this woman and I want her to be my wife.

I was in China in March. I spoke to her father and told him my intentions to marry his daughter. He gave me his blessing. Liu Liu's parents don't speak English. This is why I've been learning Chinese. It's a fun language; even my own sweet Mom is taking lessons in the new year!

To everyone who's supported us along the way, thank you so very much. We couldn't have done this without you, really. June 26th, 2010. Pack your bags and Godspeed. We'll see you in China.
