A GREAT (FREE) CHINESE-ENGLISH FONT

Finding a font that looks good in two languages can be difficult. This is especially true for Chinese/English fonts. For typing plain text, like on a blog, it may not matter. 如:看一看。The English and 中文 match more or less.

But where presentation is important, like on posters, brochures and computer graphics, I find myself switching fonts a lot. This is because:

      1. Fonts often look great in one language but terrible in the other.

      2. The English and Chinese versions don't match.

      3. The font is boring.

Here's a solution I found by accident. The font is called 微软雅黑 (Microsoft Yahei). It's native to every version of Windows since XP. The *bold* typesetting is what you want. Pretty bad-ass. It looks great in both English and Chinese. Great for section headings, titles, what-have-you. It's not wimpy, and it's free!

Some quick samples. I made the one above in Photoshop. The second is a screen capture from a program I'm using to learn Chinese. Of course it looks better in hi-res.
